 A freestanding birth center (FBC) is a healthcare facility designed to provide a full spectrum of well body services, and are most well-known for hosting low-to-no intervention births. People of all ages and stages, from menarche (first period) through menopause are able to receive incredible care led by midwives in a birth center setting. Pregnant clients best served by birth centers are people who have few to no chronic health problems and whose pregnancies are without complication or need for close monitoring. These folks are usually interested in a birth experience that some refer to as “natural birth”, or unmedicated birth, which really means that they’re looking to birth without the use of IV pain medication or an epidural. The birth center model of care is less-interventional, safe, health-promoting, affordable, cost-effective and equitable.
The Burr Ridge Birth Center has 3 large birth suites and has the capacity for water birth. We also have 4 clinic rooms, a classroom, a full kitchen and dining area as well as a living room. Childbirth classes focusing on unmedicated birth and out-of-hospital birth will be offered, as well as community-centered classes and support groups. The Burr Ridge Birth Center is now taking client appointments for well body care, intimate health needs and prenatal appointments. Expectant families can participate in the virtual Birth Center Tour held weekly to learn more about community birth, costs of care and BRBC’s commitment to safe, fulfilling birth.
